Windows 7 Alternative Credentials
Error: 0x0000052e Operation Failed

Cause:

When accessing a network printer, if your Windows 7 credentials (ID and password) do not match your credentials on the print server (your MUnet ID and password), the operation will fail with the above error message.

Solution:

When trying to install a network printer, you receive the following error:

'Windows cannot connect to the printer', with details of 'Operation failed with error 0x0000052e'.

When accessing a network printer, if your Windows 7 credentials (ID and password) do not match your credentials on the print server (your MUnet ID and password), the operation will fail with the above error message.  This happens when using the uPrint utility to install a Pay-for-Print printer.  You need to supply Windows 7 with your MUnet credentials as an alternative set of credentials to use.

Details:

Store alternative credentials in Windows 7 Credentials Manager

1.  Click the Windows 7 Start button, and then type Credential Manager in the Search text box.

2.  Select the Control Panel Credential Manager from the results.

3.  From the Credential Manager window, click the link Add a Windows credential.

4.  In the Internet or network address text box, type it.muohio.edu.

5.  In the User Name text box, type it\uniqueid, substituting your actual uniqueid.

6.  Type your current MUnet password.

7.  Click OK and then close the Credential Manager window.

You should now be able to run the uPrint utility and install Pay-for-Print networked printers.

NOTE:  You will need to update your password in this text box when your MUnet password changes. Failure to do so may cause Pay-for-Print printing to stop working on your machine.
